HARTBURN HOTEL - A comedic melodrama by Whitney Ryan Garrity
Directed by Tom Abbott
Faced with losing the Last Chance Inn once again, Ma and Pa Culpepper turn to glamorous Sahara Hartburn. Sahara pays off their loan with money from a "well-heeled admirer" and promptly takes over the inn. Transformed into the Hartburn Hotel, the place becomes a residence for young ladies with a "no men allowed upstairs" policy. Sahara schemes to find a scandal that will give her new venture some publicity, and finds it when the new schoolteacher, Polly Sincere, is paid a visit by her dapper and devoted boyfriend, Jasper Jones - in her room! To escape, Jasper dresses as a girl and poses as "Jasmine Sincere," Polly's sister. Complications arise when a visiting sheriff falls for "Jasmine" and "her" sudden disappearance leads Sahara to accuse Polly of murder! An attempt to clear Polly's name, an outrageous chase, and the search for a bank robber all conspire to bring the play to a surprising - and side-splitting - conclusion.

The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

LIVE HOLIDAY RADIO SHOW
*Announcement coming soon!*
Since 1999, R-ACT Theatre Productions' annual holiday radio show has been a cherished tradition in the Beaver County arts community. This one-weekend-only event serves as R-ACT's final production of each season. R-ACT radio shows transport audiences back to the Golden Age of radio with live performances of classic scripts from the 1930s–1950s or original works inspired by the era. Staying true to the style of vintage radio, actors perform live at microphones with scripts in hand, while practical Foley sound effects are created in real time to bring the stories to life. Without the visual elements of costumes or sets, the focus is entirely on the art of voice acting and sound, offering a unique and engaging experience for audiences who watch the magic of radio unfold on stage. Continuing a longstanding tradition, our holiday radio production is also a charity event. Each year all proceeds are donated to a cause chosen by the show’s director.
(Audition Estimate: mid September)
